Our Saturday Series invites children ages 12 months through Grade 8 and their parents or caregivers to learn, create and explore through engaging, hands-on experiences.

Each themed Saturday offers something new to discover, with activities ranging from art, music and science to dance and sports—all thoughtfully designed to spark curiosity, creativity and a love of learning for toddlers, preschoolers and school-age children alike.

: Children ages 12 months–Grade 8 and their parent/guardian. Open to children enrolled and not enrolled at New Canaan Country School.

  • Chess: Intermediate (Grades 4-8)

    This class is designed for students that have taken chess before and have a strong understanding of the rules and at least some prior knowledge of basic strategy in the opening, middle and endgame. Students will learn more advanced strategy through the study of examples by masters as well as their own games.
     
    The class is taught in partnership with RedBandit Chess. Classes are designed and led by National Master Ian Harris, a professional instructor with over 15 years of experience teaching chess, along with his team of highly experienced instructors.   • Chess: Novice (Kindergarten-Grade 6)

    This class is designed for students taking chess for the first or second time. Initial classes will introduce the basic rules of chess including piece movements, special rules and how to win the game before progressing on to ideas of chess strategy.

  • Ceramics: Hand Building (Grades 2-5)

    Curious about clay? Learn how to hand-build with NCCS Ceramics Teacher Kate Casner! Each session, we will craft and decorate a mug, bowl, jar or another functional work of art. Pieces will then be kiln-fired and ready for pickup in 2-3 weeks.
    Adults are welcome to join in on the messy fun!

  • Creative Ballet (Ages 3–4)

    Creative Ballet introduces young children to the joy of dance through a thoughtful blend of ballet fundamentals, music, storytelling and imaginative movement. In a warm and encouraging environment, students develop coordination, balance, rhythm, and body awareness while strengthening listening skills, confidence and creative expression. Each class is designed to nurture curiosity and a love of learning, inviting children to explore movement with both structure and imagination. This enriching program lays a strong foundation for future dance study while supporting the physical, social and artistic development of each child.

    Becca Winter is the dance program vendor for New Canaan Country School, where she carefully selects exceptional teaching artists who share her commitment to providing every student with a joyful, high-quality dance education.

    An award-winning choreographer, performer, and educator, Becca holds an MFA in Dance from Sarah Lawrence College and has performed internationally with Pilobolus and Catapult, including the finals of America's Got Talent. She has received the 2024 New England Foundation for the Arts Dance Fund Grant and the 2025 Connecticut Office of the Arts Fellowship Award.
    With years of experience teaching children and training educators, Becca's mission is to make outstanding dance education accessible to every child by building programs led by inspiring, skilled and nurturing teachers.

  • Grown-Up & Me Dance (Ages 1.5–2.5)

    Share the joy of movement with your little one in this playful first dance experience! Together, you'll explore music, creative movement and foundational dance skills designed especially for toddlers.   • Imagination Discovery Lab (Kindergarten-Grade 1)

    Step into a hands-on laboratory-style learning experience designed especially for children in Kindergarten-Grade 1! In this engaging discovery lab, young scientists become explorers of the natural world as they mix, build, experiment, and create using safe, age-appropriate materials. Each class blends playful experimentation with foundational STEM concepts, encouraging curiosity, problem-solving and creativity.
     
    From colorful chemical reactions and sensory experiments to simple engineering challenges and creative inventions, students are invited to observe, ask questions, and discover how science is everywhere around them. This is a joyful, guided lab environment where learning feels like play and every child is encouraged to think like a scientist.

  • Pokémon® 30th Anniversary Adventure (Kindergarten-Grade 5)

    Celebrate 30 Years of Pokémon with Build With Ricky!
    Join us for an exciting Saturday adventure where young Trainers build amazing Pokémon-inspired LEGO® models, explore hands-on STEM engineering and enjoy special Pokémon-themed activities throughout the session. Featured projects include a Poké Ball Catch Machine, Charizard, Pikachu's Lightning Tail and more!
     
    On select class days, students will also create colorful Pokémon Perler Bead artwork to take home.

  • Super Soccer Stars Parent & Me (Ages 12–24 Months)

    Parent & Me is a parent-child pre-soccer and movement program specifically designed for toddlers between 12 and 24 months. Our experienced instructors, along with our puppet friends Mimi & Pepe, guide parents and little ones through engaging physical activities that encourage movement, exploration, and early social development. Low child-to-coach ratios, individual attention, positive reinforcement, and original music help toddlers develop balance, coordination, running, kicking, and other foundational movement skills—all while having a blast together.
