Cougars Roar in Strong Win vs. GFA

After a season filled with heart-pounding games that went down to the wire, the Cougars finally notched a comfortable win today against the Greens Farms Academy Dragons.

The first half, however, was a close one. The Cougars started out sluggish on offense, throwing interceptions on two of the first three drives. However, our zone coverage was as tight as it has been all year, resulting in a first half shutout for the defense! With one half-field rushing touchdown from RB Archer MacLear in the Cougar's column, the boys took a 6-0 lead into half-time.

This is where NCCS started to hit the gas. In our first drive after the half, QB Griffin Stallmeyer threw up a deep shot on second down, but the GFA corner was able to bat the ball in the air. However, before the ball hit the ground, WR Jack Reilly made the play of the game, a full-extension diving catch in the end zone for an incredible score. The "tip drill" strikes again!

Up 12-0, the Cougars were able to stack a couple extra possessions together thanks to S Topher Kern and LB/Trusted Scorekeeper Finn Dickinsion who each snagged interceptions. On one of these extra drives, NCCS debuted their third QB of the season, Justin Stannard, who wasted no time putting up points for the Cougars, firing a touchdown on a drag route to WR Parker Griggs. To cap off our scoring for the day, QB Griffin Stallmeyer fired a touchdown to  WR/QB Topher Kern and then a beautiful wheel route to WR Chace Crandall in the corner of the endzone for two to round us up to an even 28.

Despite the two second half picks, GFA was able to get in the endzone on their final two drives due to some suspect flag pulling (You know who I'm looking at for this one!) and premature coasting. Final score 28-16, Cougs.

Great work, guys! See you on Tuesday of next week where we will be traveling to GFA for a 3:30 game!
