Football? A beautiful fall day? Things could be worse! Today, the Cougs returned from their away game at FCDS with a 40-24 victory, their first on the road all season.
However, it wasn't all roses from the jump! The NCCS White offense stalled out early, and FCDS immediately drove right down the field to score, taking a quick 6-0 lead. The offense sputtered again on the next drive, but things took a dramatic turn for the better on 4th down. The Skyhawks sent a blitz, and QB Topher Kern bought just enough time before launching a moon ball all the way down field to WR Parker Griggs who tracked the ball down and put it away for our first score of the day.
After this, the offense was unleashed. On the next drive, QB Griffin Stallmeyer found RB Archer MacClear for a score to give NCCS the lead, and from there, we wouldn't give it up. On our next three drives, Topher threw touchdown passes to WR Crey Savage (a tight window bullet from close range) WR Finn Dickinson (insert duck call noise here), and WR Matt Visokey (a beautiful deep ball into the corner of the endzone), who also brought in the two point conversion after his touchdown as well. With the offense on a roll, we just needed a couple of stops... and that is just what we got. With another turnover on downs, and an interception, the Cougs had it covered. But, the offense decided to grab a little insurance, just in case. QB GriffStallmeyer led one final touchdown drive, finding WR/C Beckett Villari for a big gain down the middle of the field before tossing an extra touchdown to Archie out of the backfield. With that, the Cougars sealed up a great team victory.
Good work, fellas. Enjoy the day off tomorrow and do all the duck call noises you want. Last game of the year next week against Rip @ home... we hope to see you all there!
